Sheriff's Indemnity Bond

Indemnity bonds in general are made to protect the obligee (the person requiring the bond) from dishonest or improper acts by the principal (the person required to obtain a bond).

A Sheriff's Indemnity Bond, or Indemnity to Sheriff Bond, is designed to protect police officials such as marshals or sheriffs from being sued for repossessing someone's property by the person whose party is being repossessed, as long as said police official has an official order of possession or writ of execution to perform the repossession.

The obligee should instruct the principal as to what is an appropriate bond amount.
